Acer’s New AI-Ready, Convertible Chromebook is Built on Arm Performance and Graphics
Open in the morning, flip it for a meeting, and stream at night – Chromebooks have quickly become a defining category for lightweight, efficient, and versatile laptops. Announced on September 3rd, Acer is extending that momentum with its new Acer Chromebook Plus Spin 514, a convertible laptop that adapts to the user’s every moment, whether typing in class, sketching in tablet mode, or streaming at home.
At its core is MediaTek’s Kompanio Ultra system-on-chip (SoC), built on the Arm compute platform, where performance is met with industry-leading power efficiency.
Built on Arm for AI, Speed, and Battery Life
The foundation of most Chromebook Plus laptops is the Armv9 architecture that makes for durable and lightweight designs, while still delivering performance that keeps up with modern workloads.
This efficiency has a direct impact on AI. With Armv9 architecture, advanced AI workloads, such as image generation or tab organization via Smart Grouping, can run locally. This helps improve responsiveness, preserve privacy, and increase battery life. Moreover, Arm’s trusted security foundation ensures protection at both the hardware and software level.
MediaTek’s Kompanio Ultra SoC extends this capability with:
- Arm Cortex-X925 CPU to deliver peak bursts of performance.
- Arm Cortex-X4 and Cortex-A720 CPUs to handle power-efficient background AI processing.
- Arm Immortalis-G925 GPU to power richer visuals and smoother streaming.
The result is a multi-core platform that balances productivity, creativity, and entertainment, with notably longer battery life than many traditional laptop architectures. The Acer Chromebook Plus Spin 514, with its 14-inch form factor, delivers up to 17 hours* of usage.
