Arm Brings Software-Driven Intelligence to Geely EX5

By Dipti Vachani, SVP and GM of the Automotive Line of Business, Arm

News Highlights:

  • The Geely EX5, built on the Arm compute platform, brings intelligent performance and real-time safety to modern driving
  • Integrating Arm Automotive Enhanced technologies enables the Geely EX5 to deliver seamless screen integration, intelligent park assist, and multilingual natural-language voice interaction for more intuitive driving experiences
  • This partnership shows how the Arm ecosystem, together with leading OEM partners, is enabling the future of intelligent, connected mobility

The automotive industry is undergoing its biggest transformation in a century. Drivers are now expecting cars that think and respond, whether its voice assistants that personalize trips to advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) that anticipate the road ahead. Meeting these expectations demands powerful, efficient compute at the core. This is why over the last five years, Arm-based chip shipments to the automotive market have tripled, with 80% of in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) and 65% ADAS now running on Arm technology.

Today, we’re incredibly proud to share that the Geely EX5 is coming to the U.K., a fantastic example of how our automotive OEM partners are using Arm technology to combine performance, safety, and connectivity on one intelligent platform. This collaboration highlights how the Arm compute platform enables built-in safety and security, and real-time intelligence capabilities to help Geely deliver smarter, more connected driving experiences.

Purpose-Built Compute for Intelligent Vehicles

At the core of the Geely EX5 is the SiEngine StarEagle (SE1000) system-on-chip (SoC), which is built on Arm’s Automotive Enhanced (AE) technologies. Established in 2019, Arm’s collaboration with this automotive-focused semiconductor company has become a model for how close silicon partnerships can accelerate innovation in automotive compute.

This SoC integrates Arm Cortex-A CPUs for application processing, Arm Cortex-R CPUs for real-time control and safety functions, Arm Mali GPUs for high-fidelity graphics on IVI screens, and Arm Image Signal Processors (ISPs) for vision and camera-based intelligence, enabling the Geely EX5 to deliver seamless screen integration, intelligent park assist, and multilingual natural-language voice interaction for more intuitive driving experiences.

Building on Arm’s unmatched legacy in mobile markets, the central IVI system mirrors the responsiveness of a smartphone, making in-vehicle interaction simpler and more intuitive. By combining high compute performance and efficiency with advanced intelligence capabilities, the StarEagle (SE1000) gives Geely the freedom to develop vehicles that deliver faster, smarter, and more personalized driving experiences.

Additionally, since safety and reliability are the foundation of Arm’s AE technologies, a dedicated real-time ASIL-D safety island continuously monitors critical systems in the Geely EX5 to ensure reliability even under fault conditions.

With the Arm-powered SE1000 SoC, we’ve achieved the compute performance and low-latency responsiveness needed to support real-time AI workloads across cockpit and driver-assistance systems. Arm Automotive Enhanced technologies gave us the flexibility to scale software capabilities quickly while maintaining the safety and reliability expected from every Geely vehicle.” Mark Blundell, Chief Marketing Officer at Geely Auto UK.

Enabling the Software-Driven, AI-Defined Future

The Geely EX5 marks a clear shift in the industry toward vehicles that are defined by software and accelerated with intelligent performance. Through Arm’s scalable compute platform, automakers can continuously enhance the driving experience – updating features, improving driver assistance, and refining in-cabin experiences through over-the-air (OTA) updates to keep vehicles current long after they leave the factory.

As the automotive industry accelerates toward an AI-driven future, Arm technology now underpins vehicles from nearly every global automaker, enabling the intelligence, efficiency, and adaptability that define next-generation mobility. Together, we’re building vehicles that are intelligent, adaptable, efficient, and ready for the road ahead where software and AI drive every aspect of mobility.
