Arm Introduces New Developer Initiative to Expedite Migration to Arm-based Cloud Platforms
AI’s rapid transformation of computing infrastructure has magnified the importance of optimizing performance, efficiency, and total cost of ownership for all workloads.
Our relentless focus to deliver on these needs is why Arm Neoverse quickly emerged as the platform of choice for technology leaders redefining the datacenter. Major cloud service providers have achieved significant price-performance gains by leveraging Neoverse in silicon like AWS Graviton, Google Cloud Axion, Microsoft Azure Cobalt 100, and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Ampere Arm-based compute.
With more Arm-based cloud instances available than ever before, we’re seeing rapid growth in the number of customers migrating from legacy-based platforms to Arm. This migration is driven by the pursuit of greater energy efficiency, performance improvements, expanded optionality and because modern, cloud-native, and AI-enabled software works best on Arm – all driving lower total cost of ownership and progress toward reducing carbon footprints. As more developers are building on Arm than ever, today we’re introducing several updates to our cloud migration resources and new channels for developer engagement.
Large numbers of organizations are already moving their workloads to realize these benefits. Companies such as Uber are in the process of migrating their entire platform, including more than 5,000 services, to Arm-based hosts for better price-performance, access to the latest AI-optimized silicon, and reducing their overall carbon footprint. Spotify is seeing roughly 250% better performance on Arm-based Axion compared to workloads running on Google Cloud to date, while Datadog has moved 70% of its workloads to Arm-based AWS Graviton.
Accelerating migration for cloud developers
Our goal is to ensure developers have comprehensive support and access to in-depth resources for a seamless migration to Arm, enabling them to fully maximize the benefits of Arm in the cloud. Through our curated developer experience, we’ve established Learning Paths – practical developer tutorials – with workload-specific technical walk-throughs, and assistance across the various stages of developer migration. Now, developers can directly engage with our team of Arm cloud migration experts for project support.
Building a multi-architecture environment has traditionally implied some complexity, but is increasingly the default for leading cloud-native software developers. From initial assessment and planning for tools and platform readiness, to building and running applications, and finally testing and optimizing for performance, there is a growing wealth of knowledge and examples of how to navigate this journey and unlock the benefits of Arm.
Today Arm is introducing the following updates to the cloud migration support we provide to developers, providing a variety of resources to match the size and scale of your organization:
- Cloud Migration Resource Hub: Developers seeking relevant resources on migrating the most common workloads can use this portal to access over 100+ step-by-step Learning Paths for migrating major workloads across multiple cloud platforms. In addition, the Software Ecosystem Dashboard for Arm provides up-to-date information on compatible Arm versions of major open source and commercial software components.
- Community Support: Find answers to questions from Arm’s active ecosystem of experts. Engage on our migration-specific GitHub, and join the Arm Developer Program for upcoming webinars, tutorials, expert sessions, and more.
- Engineering Experts for Enterprises: We have a team of Arm Cloud Migration experts ready to help today. Interact directly with our team on specific Arm migration needs.
Empowering developers on Arm, everywhere
These updates will have an immediate impact in assisting cloud developers in making their move to Arm, but it’s not the only investment we’re making to ensure Arm is the most developer-friendly platform.
In the cloud, developers moving AI workloads can take advantage of Arm Kleidi integrations in the latest generation of leading frameworks like PyTorch and automatically benefit from dramatic AI performance improvements on Arm without taking any extra steps. We’ve also recently announced the availability of the Arm extension for GitHub Copilot, making Arm-based technology more accessible and simplifying migrations to the Arm architecture while reducing development time and costs.
The combined resources, tools, and an Arm software ecosystem of more than 20 million developers, is providing the foundation for building a wide range of Arm-powered workloads including web and application servers, containerized microservices, databases, data analytics, AI and machine learning. This is an exciting step, empowering developers everywhere to unlock the full performance, efficiency, and scalability of the Arm platform. More to come, stay tuned!
